Celebrate the birth of Vamanji, the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, (dwarf). Vamanji was incarnated to teach king Bali a lesson as he took over Indra kingdom. Vamanji asked king Bali for just three steps of land in charity. As soon as he said to give the land, Vamanji’s body began to expand; he covered the whole Earth with one step and all the heavenly planets with the second. He had nowhere else to put the third step and asked king Bali. After seeing this king Bali bowed down in humility and offered Vamanji his head to place the third step. Seeing him this humbled, Vamanji became very pleased and told Bali that henceforth I would permanently reside in his palace. Thereafter, on Parivartani Ekadasi, Bali, the son of Virochana, grandson of Prahlad, installed a Deity form of Vishnu in his residence. |
